Stress is often coined the “silent killer” because stress affects people in different ways. It can cause an immediate response in the body such as an increase in heart rate, difficulty breathing, tense muscles, and the list goes on. Stress actually triggers our “fight or flight” response which can be a positive thing if you are in the woods being chased by a bear! That is a short lived response which helps us get out of danger. However, living in a prolonged state of fight or flight can create dis-ease in the body that sticks with us. Therefore, it becomes crucial to our short and long term well being to learn how to cope with everyday stressors as well as more disruptive ones.
“Keeping stress at a comfortable level seems to be the key to physical and mental well-being, albeit an elusive one. By understanding what we are experiencing when under pressure and learning relaxation techniques and new coping behaviors, we can manage our stress levels with greater efficiency, thereby avoiding both panic and the health-threatening effects of stress.. Since we are undergoing some kind of change twenty four hours a day, it’s wise to start identifying and expressing feelings (both physical and emotional) as a way to smooth out the jagged edges of stress. Developing this ability also serves as a buffer zone to the times when the changes in our lives take a radical turn--in any direction.” - Martin Cohen
At a time in our society where we are almost constantly plugged into technology we find higher and higher rates of stress induced health issues. Work is typically never far from our fingertips, social media, 24 hour access to news stories, and the like keeps the pressure on and at the ready. Many of us turn to binge watching Netflix, alcohol, or other less productive ways to deal with our stress which continues to what?? STRESS our bodies in different ways.
That is why I am passionate about helping people learn better ways to cope. As a part of that effort, Nancy and I have created our “Positive Reflections” series. Once per month I construct a guided meditation and you get to make one of two essential oil blends she has created, to help with a specific issue that many of us face. To launch our series we chose to start with reducing stress and increasing relaxation. If we are in a state of stress it’s hard to heal other areas of our lives and who wants to start the new year off that way?
So join us on the very first Thursday of our brand new year (January 3rd 2019) and kick it off with some new tools to help you reduce stress and increase relaxation! You deserve it. In a world that’s as fast paced as ours is, it’s a necessity.

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding this holiday song as of late. No matter where you stand on the subject, there is no denying that December in most of the US brings cold temps and leaves us saying “baby, it’s cold outside!”
Oklahoma has been no exception with cooler than average temperatures lately. No matter though! Aspen Tree Hypnotherapy and Wellness has a beautiful, relaxing, and most importantly, during this season...WARM infrared sauna for Oklahomans to use. Not only do the infrared rays warm you from the inside out, just like sun rays do, the warmth increases your circulation which helps with detoxification, immune boosting, germ busting, stress reduction, and so much more. Because our sauna is a medical grade infrared sauna, it doesn’t use steam to warm the ambient air surrounding you like steam saunas do. That means that it’s not stifling and you don’t feel claustrophobic while inside. The benefits are also greater due to the infrared rays! The beautiful, fragrant cedar also smells wonderful as it heats up along with you. It’s simply the best way to warm up during the winter months!
During the month of December you can get one private 40 minute sauna session absolutely FREE when you book a 60 minute Reiki session. Reiki is a wonderfully relaxing experience that also reduces stress and promotes a deep state of relaxation. To read more about the benefits of Reiki, click here.
